Start Your Day with a Calm Nervous System

In our increasingly digital world, it’s tempting to check our phones the moment we wake up, overwhelmed by a flood of notifications and messages. This habit, however, has proven to be an inefficient way to start the day. It immediately triggers your nervous system, which is already hard at work.

Cortisol levels are naturally high in the morning, and adding more stress and caffeine on top of that is counterproductive. Instead, a more serene approach is advised: engage in some light exercise and avoid looking at your phone. While listening to music during your morning workout is perfectly fine, there’s no need to check notifications.

To gently activate your digestion, consider an alternative to coffee. Coffee can trick you into a bowel movement, but it can also be harsh on your gut lining in the long run, especially for those with chronic stomach issues. A beneficial alternative is a golden spice drink, a blend of turmeric and black pepper. Both ingredients are potent antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties, known to benefit the digestive system. Be patient, as they may take longer to have an effect. It is also crucial to find a reliable source for high-quality powder.

If a full workout isn’t for you, simply shaking your body can also be effective. Shaking is a natural way to release tension and regulate the nervous system. This simple action not only feels good but also helps release positive hormones and improves blood circulation.

Another beneficial activity is a mindful walk without any distractions. We often listen to music or podcasts while walking, which can be enjoyable and informative. However, in the morning, a clear mind is often more beneficial. This is a chance to use your senses to absorb the scenery and sounds of nature and daily life. Multitasking by listening to a podcast during your walk can prevent you from focusing on the walking itself. Next time, try leaving your earphones at home and simply go out for a walk with no electronic entertainment.

A light breakfast is also recommended to fill your stomach. For some people, an empty stomach in the morning can lead to discomfort, especially when starting a stressful workday. Having something to eat can prevent the release of more stress hormones. Lastly, if you have a loved one nearby, a warm hug or a few kind words can make a big difference. Cuddling helps release oxytocin, a hormone that promotes feelings of happiness and contentment, setting you up for a great start to the day.
